A JOURNEY BETWEEN NEEDLE AND BRUSH: A TALE OF PASSION AND DEDICATION
GRANDFATHER LUCA
My grandfather Luca rose from the shadows of his orphaned youth, embraced by the loving care of his aunt Rosina.
In a modest family, life's necessities drove his aunt to make a difficult choice: to take Luca to the local master tailors, guardians of an ancient craft.
With courage and sacrifice, Luca learned the nuances of every needle and thread, becoming an expert model maker, cutter, and tailor. His story unfolded among fabrics and stitches, until, at the young age of twenty, he decided to face new challenges, carrying with him the skills he had acquired.
His expertise and dedication led him to embark on an adventure in a new tailoring shop, where he met a coworker who would soon become his brother-in-law. These were difficult years filled with change. After marrying my grandmother Rosa and having four children, Luca faced the challenges of the time, ultimately leaving the shop to work in a large clothing factory, earning the rights of a respected worker.
As the years went by, his last son was born, and with a large family to support, Luca decided to seek new opportunities. The lure of a better salary took him to another prestigious factory, where he pursued his beloved craft with the same passion until the horizon of retirement.

GRANDFATHER GIUSEPPE
Not having had the opportunity to study, Giuseppe began working with his father as a child, spending years learning the trade and absorbing everything related to art. After working most of his life with his father, he decided to open his own workshop, dedicating himself to painting, sculpting, decorating, and embroidering with threads of gold.
The artistic legacy also manifested among my grandfather Giuseppe's siblings, giving rise to a gift that transcended generations, like a love story told by a brush passed from hand to hand.
In a time of change, after marrying my grandmother Marianna, Giuseppe became the father of fourteen children. However, in a life marked by harsh trials, he had to face years of sacrifices and hardships. During that troubled period, life took away all his children except for the last two: my aunt and my father.
My grandmother, suffering from complications during pregnancy, lived through the tragedy of losing many babies and twins, marking a cycle of fleeting joys and sad farewells. A chronicle of sorrow, where the lives of these little ones grew only to be extinguished prematurely. A story of misfortunes and difficult moments, a journey to be overcome with courage.
Thus, two parallel lives, intertwined between needle and brush, laid the foundations of my family story, passing down to me the legacy of a sartorial and artistic tradition rooted in love, passion, commitment, and resilience.

MY FAMILY
At that time, my mother was fifteen, while my father was twenty-one. Their young age raised concerns for my grandfather Luca, who was not fond of their relationship. On the other hand, my grandmother Rosa had a great appreciation for my father, which often led to discussions.
After months of courtship, my mother's heart surrendered to love. Upon finally reaching adulthood and completing her studies in early childhood education, she began her career as a kindergarten teacher. Meanwhile, my father, after years of working with my grandfather Giuseppe, decided to seek economic stability. His job application at the old Ilva factory in Taranto was accepted, landing him a position in the shipping office. After three years, with their parents' blessing, they united their lives in the sacred bond of marriage.
From their union, six wonderful children came to life: Arianna, Giuseppe, Rosita, Vanessa, Morena, and finally me, Davide, immersed in a family abundant with love and brotherhood.
The artistic legacy of my grandparents, our creative DNA, has flowed through every family member, gifting each of us a passion for art.
Since my early childhood, I fondly remember that every room in our house pulsed with creativity. There was always someone drawing, coloring, or painting, and my childlike curiosity drove me to hide and watch my siblings at work, enchanted.

THE CHALLENGES OF CHILDHOOD
From a young age, I stood out for my shy and introverted nature, as my mother often said: “A kind-hearted boy.” Growing up within the creative walls of our home, I took my first steps into the world of art. Drawing became my language, accompanying me from elementary school through the years that followed.
My journey wasn’t without obstacles, with moments of light and shadow that influenced my story.
Among my most vivid memories are the challenges I faced, such as episodes of bullying during middle school, which left an indelible mark on my path. These experiences profoundly impacted my emotional and psychological well-being. For me, seventh and eighth grade were the most difficult years of my young life. Besides the bullying incidents, I distinctly remember the discomfort caused by my art teacher. I often found myself in situations where my abilities were called into question, such as when she accused me of not being the true author of my artistic works, suspecting that they were the product of my siblings, her former students. These circumstances fueled my inner turmoil and generated anxiety every time I had to face another school day. I couldn't wait to return home, to a place where I felt safe and protected.
So, after middle school, I decided to pursue a completely different path than who I was. I enrolled in a hospitality school in Fasano, wanting to distance myself as much as possible from my hometown to forget the painful past.
The first year was a whirlwind of emotions: I discovered a new reality, fascinating subjects, and, most importantly, I met classmates and professors who welcomed me with affection and understanding.
But from the first to the second year, I gained a different perspective on life. In my class, I witnessed episodes of bullying directed at some teachers. It was at that moment that I felt the anguish of my past awaken again. I constantly wondered: how can people be so cruel to one another? I couldn’t understand why someone would act so meanly, engaging in bullying and discrimination.
These were years of profound changes, marked by a growing sense of inner discomfort. At one point, I realized that the course of study I was following wasn’t fulfilling; I felt as though I had taken a wrong turn. The passion for drawing continued to burn within me with increasing intensity.

THE JOURNEY TO SELF-REALIZATION
Even during those dark times, I found solace in art—a faithful companion that guided me through difficulties. I continued to draw, for myself, for friends, and by participating in school projects.
During those complex years, I faced a struggle with depression, despite having extraordinary classmates by my side. Among them, Giovanna, my desk mate, was a constant presence and support. I shared my deepest thoughts with her, and her closeness was a beacon of comfort during my darkest moments.
My journey took a significant turn after completing my studies. I realized that my true calling lay in the union of fashion and art. After numerous trips and research with my father, I decided to enroll at the Victoria Academy Fashion Designer Institute in Bari. It was here that I met my beloved Academy Director, Vittoria. It was love at first sight—an extraordinary meeting that changed the course of my life.
I was fortunate to attend a wonderful class led by incredibly knowledgeable and caring professors. Thanks to their guidance, I was able to draw out all my potential—those abilities I knew I possessed but that had remained hidden in some corner of my being. They stimulated my artistic creativity until it burst forth. I particularly fondly remember my dear professor Rosa, who instilled in me a love for textile design, and the fantastic professor Florisa, who contributed to my vision as an artist. For this, I will be eternally grateful.
Here, too, I shared a desk with a great classmate named Caterina. We faced very challenging and demanding years together, supporting each other until the last year.
I graduated as a Fashion Designer. During my studies, I dedicated my thesis to my paternal grandfather, whom I unfortunately never knew.
I specialized in two areas that I am particularly passionate about: Fashion Design and Textile Design. Through my studies and creativity, I refined my aesthetic sensitivity not only in the field of fashion but in every form of art that surrounds me.

MY JOURNEY IN ART AND FASHION
I started this first adventure with my sister Morena, who lent me a hand during those crucial days. However, my initial disappointment soon arrived. Despite presenting myself with enthusiasm and showcasing my work with passion, I did not receive the feedback I had hoped for. The shops didn’t seem interested in my creations or willing to display my hand-painted silks in their windows. This incident marked my first bitter confrontation with reality: I felt rejected by my hometown.
I began my first travels in search of work, carrying with me a suitcase full of hopes and accompanied by my brother Giuseppe. Rome, Milan, Florence: I introduced myself to various design studios, companies, and shops, delivering my resume and showcasing my portfolios. However, nothing seemed to open up for me. With each disappointment, I realized that the path ahead would be more challenging than I had anticipated.
During this time, two incidents deeply affected me. The first occurred in a design studio, where a young collaborator told me, “You can be as talented as you want, but if you don’t have the right key and strong backing, you won’t get anywhere in this world.” The second incident happened when I left my resume at a company. Just as I turned to leave, I saw my resume being ripped apart right before my eyes. That brutal and disdainful act struck me profoundly, leaving me with a sense of disillusionment and frustration.
After weeks, I returned to Martina, feeling heartbroken and defeated. It was in this critical moment that art came to my rescue. I remember buying my first canvas, brushes, and oil paints. I had never painted until that day, but I decided to start painting on my own. I was flooded with a warmth and emotion I had never experienced before; I couldn’t get enough of it. Soon, a new journey in art and fashion began, filled with personal satisfaction.

MY ARTISTIC ADVENTURE IN THE WORLD
My first major moment in the fashion world occurred on February 5, 2012, during the "Lecce Fashion Weekend 8," a significant event in the "Made in Apulia" fashion scene. Since then, I have been fortunate to participate in various events in many cities around the world. I brought my creations to Paris, London, Oslo, Köping, Stockholm, Bangkok, Moscow, Tashkent, and many other fascinating cities.
Every time my works are warmly received by critics and the public, I experience an indescribable emotion. Seeing them admired and appreciated is a moment of great satisfaction. My creations have become part of private collections, both in Italy and abroad.
It is an honor to know that people value my work and choose to cherish one of my creations as a personal treasure.
In addition to professional successes, I have had the privilege of meeting extraordinary people who have enriched my artistic journey. Initially, many of them were clients, but over time they became dear friends with whom I shared not only an appreciation for my art but also the support and trust essential for my creative development.
I am deeply grateful for the bond that has formed and for the invaluable contribution to my artistic growth.

THE DAVIDE CRISTOFARO BRAND
I reached out to my brother Giuseppe, asking if he wanted to join me in this new chapter of my life and help build this company together. With courage, in August 2015, we launched the brand, knowing that the journey would lead us to new adventures.
I was no longer alone; my brother was by my side. Two opposites balancing each other out: I, the irrational creative force, and he, the rational one managing the business side of things.
Thus began years filled with emails, phone calls, and endless travels: from Como to Milan, from Lugano to London. Trade shows, meetings, and networking opportunities piled up as we sought out companies willing to support our projects. This phase was extremely delicate, as many of the companies we reached out to either didn’t respond to our emails and calls or simply weren’t interested in collaborating.
We pressed on with determination and tenacity until we built a network of external producers, carefully selected for their craftsmanship and reliability in large-scale production.
Another challenging step involved reaching out to stores and showrooms to gauge their interest in showcasing our products. However, many of these attempts fell flat because our brand wasn’t yet well-known.
The search for companies to produce and distribute our products proved to be burdensome and frustrating. I recalled the words of a young collaborator from a design studio in Milan: “You can be as talented as you want, but without the right key and strong backing, you won’t get anywhere.” These words echoed in my mind, serving as a reminder of the challenges faced in the industry. Yet, despite the setbacks, we decided to keep pushing forward.
Then came the big opportunity: on March 17, 2019, at the beautiful “Four Seasons” hotel in Milan, our partnership for the “Asian Market” was officially announced. I was getting ready to debut in the Asian market, the largest fashion market in the world. I was selected, along with other designers, after a lengthy and meticulous selection process among countless emerging and research brands from all over Europe. The selections took place not only in Italy but also in France, Spain, Portugal, and England.
After several meetings, the contract was signed, and my creations will be sold through an online platform currently being finalized in the Asian continent, followed by multibrand boutiques in China, Japan, and Korea, and eventually reaching Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

RETURNING TO OUR ROOTS: OVERCOMING CHALLENGES AND INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
After enduring many difficulties and long experiences, we felt the need to return to our roots in Apulia, relocating our entire production to our beloved homeland. This choice not only brought us closer to family but also strengthened our bond with the community and supported the local economy.
I’m deeply involved in the international development of the 'Davide Cristofaro' brand in art, fashion, and design, expressing the authentic Italian essence. We value traditional Apulian craftsmanship and share our passion for art through unique creations, celebrating diversity and the human experience.
Our artworks and the fabrics we create tell stories of a journey through cultures and distant lands, weaving together exotic and Western influences. Each design embodies the essence of beauty and the complexity of the human psyche, transforming into exclusive fabrics used throughout our fashion production.
Our brand is symbolized by a winged lion, merging the characteristics of two powerful animals: the lion and the eagle. The lion represents strength and courage, while the eagle symbolizes power and nobility. It’s dedicated to those who believe in their dreams and never give up in the face of obstacles.
"Follow your passion, work hard to achieve your dreams. Every obstacle you encounter brings growth and maturity. Keep your vision clear: the road to success may be long, but every step brings you closer to your goals."
